Academic Scholarship Award Program 2018
The Minnesota Latino Peace Officers Association (MNLPOA) is looking to provide scholarships to students interested in careers in Law Enforcement (LE). The amounts will be determined by the number of qualified student applicant winners. The total amount to be awarded will not exceed $750.00.
The MNLPOA is a fraternal organization and has many non- Latino members, because of this, applicants need not be Latino. The money must be used for tuition, books or for other verifiable school related costs. All student applicants must be a member in good standing with the MNLPOA for at least twelve months, in addition has attended at least six meetings or two MN-NLPOA sponsored events within the scholarship calendar year. Any absences must be deemed as “excused” by the Executive Board.
The applicant must be currently enrolled in college with a Law Enforcement (LE), Criminal Justice major or in a POST approved “Skills Program”.
Verifiable 2.0 (C) minimum grade point average during their last academic year.
Submit a current copy of your transcripts (must be enrolled at least half time).
For new LE students with no transcripts, GPA etc., a letter, on a school letterhead by a guidance counselor will be needed as verification.
Student applicants cannot be involved in any criminal activity.
Student applicants can only be awarded a scholarship a maximum of 2 times.

I - Cover sheet:
Full name, date of birth, street address, city, state, and zip code.
Phone number with area code and email address.
II - Autobiography:
Typed, double spaced, two page maximum.

Application must be received by 2359 hours on November 19, 2018.
Applications that are incomplete or received after this date will not be considered. (Note: The thoroughness of your application will be considered in this evaluation process; work product and following instructions is critical).
Applicants will be notified by November 23, 2018 of proceeding to the interviews.
Interviews will be conducted on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 exact location and time TBA.
The award (s) will be given at the MN-NLPOA Holiday Party on December 22, 2018.
Candidates will be asked a series of questions to illicit information as to their character, ethical bearing and their demonstrated community service.
Points will be awarded for all four required sections in the following manner for a total of 100 points.
Section I- 5 Points
Section II- 35 points
Section III- 5 points

*Reminder: Untruthfulness or deception by omission, no matter how minor, will automatically disqualify a candidate without an appeal process.
